“George started tutoring my son in Chemistry after a really poor Y10 assessment result. He’s just taken his GCSEs and is hoping to do Chemistry for A level—that says it all really! George has been such a huge support and a brilliant tutor. Very clear and great in-depth knowledge, explained everything in very relatable terms, flexible, approachable, inspirational. Great communication and a huge help doing lots of past papers in the run up to exams. He also did a lot of Physics lessons too in the months before GCSEs and the same applies to that subject. I highly, highly recommend George as a tutor. Thanks so much George for everything!”

About me

As a tutor, I combine academic expertise with a genuine enthusiasm for teaching. I hold both a Master of Chemistry and a PhD in Chemistry from the University of Sheffield, and for the past seven years I have specialised in one-to-one tuition in A-level Chemistry, GCSE Mathematics and GCSE Science.
Chemistry PhD, University of SheffieldOver seven years of one-to-one tutoring experience
What drives me isn’t simply helping students achieve higher grades—it’s watching their confidence grow as concepts that once felt overwhelming begin to make sense. I believe that understanding creates confidence, and confidence creates independence.
Alongside tutoring, I am the Head Coach at a local Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu academy. Although science and martial arts may seem worlds apart, teaching them requires many of the same qualities: patience, clear communication and the ability to break complex skills down into manageable steps.
Whether I’m coaching athletes or tutoring students, my role is the same—to meet each individual where they are, identify the next step and help them realise their potential.
These two roles have shaped my approach to teaching. I know that lasting progress comes from building strong foundations, embracing mistakes as part of the learning process and developing confidence through consistent, purposeful practice.
Whether your child is aiming for the highest grades, preparing for important examinations or simply looking to enjoy learning again, my goal is to provide personalised tuition that develops not only academic success but the skills and confidence to continue learning long after our lessons have finished.

Teaching philosophy
Understand the starting point
Every student arrives with a unique combination of strengths, gaps in understanding and learning experiences. Rather than beginning with a formal assessment, I use carefully structured conversations and guided questioning to explore how a student thinks, what they already understand and where misconceptions may exist.
Build methodically from the ground up
We strengthen fundamental concepts first, ensuring that every new topic is supported by genuine understanding rather than memorisation. As confidence grows, we move towards increasingly challenging problems and the most demanding examination-style questions.
Revisit ideas with greater depth
Learning is rarely a straight line. Lessons continually move between foundational ideas and complex applications, regularly revisiting earlier material through a deeper and more sophisticated lens.
Practise repetition without repetition
Rather than solving the same problem repeatedly, students meet familiar concepts in new contexts and through different styles of questioning. This develops flexible thinking and knowledge that is both robust and transferable.
Let understanding support exam technique
Exam technique is most effective when it rests on secure subject knowledge. When students understand why concepts work, they become more adaptable and can tackle unfamiliar questions with confidence rather than relying on rehearsed methods.
The ultimate aim is not simply to improve the next set of exam results, but to cultivate independent, resilient learners who approach challenging problems with curiosity, confidence and genuine understanding.
